Drinking Around Dead People:
The Florence Cocktail Tour
I’ve spent some time drinking in Florence without you, and now I’d like to spend some time drinking in Florence with you.
You people are too quick! This tour has reached its max of 20 people and is now closed!
A quick note about why I have put a limit on the evening cocktail tour: the limits have to do with venue capacity and bus capacity. There isn’t a possibility to tag along without being officially signed up, since I am working with each venue ahead of time to make sure they can accommodate us, and I have to give them an exact number. If you didn’t get a spot on this tour, below is the exact itinerary, so feel free to follow this on your own during the week!
Itinerary for the drinking tour of Florence…
Limit: 20 people
As with all things in Italy, I reserve the right to change literally everything about this at a moment’s notice.
Please try to eat a carb-loaded meal before the tour so you don’t get hammered with your first beer and then blame me.
15:30 We’ll meet in the bus in front of the castle and begin our fabulous journey through the Tuscan hillside into Florence!
So we’ll get to Florence around oh I don’t know, 16:30, and that’s when we will start drinking.
Wandering off the bus, it’s just a few steps to Santa Maria Novella and our first stop: the famous - or some say INFAMOUS - Fiddler’s Elbow.
That’s right.
The Irish pub that I always go to when I’m in Florence.
Because I love it and also memories and also it’s great and I don’t want to hear one single word about how it’s an Irish pub in Italy, ok wiseguy? You’ll drink your old man beer at the Fiddler’s Elbow and you’ll LIKE IT.
Wow I am getting super defensive and weird about this place. Just a cute little glimpse of what’s to come the drunker I get! FUN TIMES. SO CUTE. GET TO KNOW ME.
So I figure we’ll spend about an hour here or something… OK yes, an hour because we have places to BE, people!
From the Fiddler’s Elbow (or ‘the Elbow,’ as no one calls it ever) we are going to wander over to the truly delightful wonderland that is Kunnubio.
We’ll pick up Via del Giglio from the piazza, going a little bit the long way so you can catch a glimpse of Basilica di San Lorenzo and I can bore you with stories of Michelangelo hiding from unsympathetic popes, and soon we will be at a place where there is a breezy courtyard, fried snacks, and some bottles of prosecco.
It will feel very cosmopolitan. Very sophisticated. Very cool. I hope you all appreciate it but then again how could you not.
OMG Kunnubio was so high-class! Kate, you’re asking yourself right now, is there anything you can do to top the sheer elegance of sitting in a courtyard and drinking too much prosecco?
No! Probably not. But I’m going to try.
Now we’re going to wander over to the Mayday Club, which everyone loves and has a great cocktail menu, and the people are very nice, and it’s right in the middle of everything great about Florence. They’re actually opening the club for us before they officially open, which means they’re our new best friends.
They have some pretty amazing drinks on their menu, and an adorable but decently-stocked bar. We’ll have a GRAND time, believe you me.
Is it classier than Kunnubio? Is it classier from the last bar we’ll go to? You guys I don’t know. You’ll need to be judges of that.
Our last stop for the night is the American Bar at B-Roof. It’s called B-Roof because the bar is ON THE ROOF. Prepare yourself for some epic nighttime views of one of the most gorgeous cities in the entire universe while sipping some delightful drinks from a delightful bar, delightfully. I am very excited for this one if I’m being honest. Like, very excited.
Once we’re done at this fab place, we’ll take a short walk back to the bus, which will spirit us away through the dark and back to our extremely haunted castle.
Remember to pace yourselves over the course of this evening because if you ever feel even just a tad queasy in a car, the night time drive back to the castle after multiple drinks and throughout the twisty turny roads of Tuscany might just do you in.
